Kahlil Daniel hails from the East coast – specifically Teaneck, New Jersey – home of the legendary Isley Brothers who were and are still giants in Rhythm & Blues. He fell in love with R&B at early age, influenced by the sounds of Donny Hathaway, Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, Brandy, and Ryan Leslie. He is an actor, composer, music director, singer & songwriter. There is a sweetness in his vocals that is exuded from the sensitive depth of his soul, bringing an authenticity to his art that not many artists possess.
Kahlil is a graduate of Howard University’s prestigious Department of Fine Arts with a BFA in Acting. He formally began his training at six, and has since matriculated through many programs including studying abroad at the British American Dramatic Academy in Oxford. Growing up, he participated in many talent shows and singing competitions leading him to become the winner of the first "Teaneck Teen Idol," competition in 2005. He is also a card-carrying member of the AEA (Actors Equity Association). His performance in the lead role as Walter Lee Younger in the timeless play ‘A Rasin in the Sun’ with Annapolis' Compass Rose Theater was highly lauded.
He has performed and served as Musical Director for churches and plays including four productions with the world famous Classical Theatre of Harlem, acting and writing original compositions including; “A Christmas Carol in Harlem” (their take on the original Charles Dicken’s classic, adapted by Shawn René-Graham) and Sophocles’ Greek tragedy “Antigone” for which Kahlil was nominated for an “Audelco” award for Outstanding Musical Direction. All plays were produced by renowned artistic director, Ty Jones.
Kahlil released his debut EP, The Rest of Your Life in 2013, followed by Higher (2018), KD III (2023), with several singles throughout. He's now back with his most recent EP Love Language Mixtape - Vol. 1 (2025). The EP also highlights the synergy between Kahlil and his production alliances – namely, Grammy Award Winning songwriter Rob Milton, Naiqui Macabroad, & Aja Moyé. Past collaborators also include musical prodigy Mathew Whitaker, Stephen Spencer, Jada Daniel, Kwesi Justice, Tai Marie & “Jon John” Robinson - former production partner of Grammy award winning producer/songwriter Vincent Herbert. He has also written and produced songs with Los Angeles based production team The Super Naturals, which is comprised of Eric Jackson and Elijah Storm. Multi-platinum songwriters and producers, both have received Grammys for their work including “Best R&B Album of the Year” for Usher Raymond’s “Confessions”. Their repertoire includes singles for Trey Songs, India Arie, Robin Thicke, Lil Wayne, Mary J. Blige and Monica.
Kahlil's song writing on LLMV1 showcases a new level of quality in sound and maturity. This EP is a sexy yet vividly-playful portrait of intimacy inspired by the 1992 classic Eddie Murphy film, "Boomerang." Kahlil describes this project as an “R&B love journey” filled with striking harmonies, memorable lyrics and rich vocals that will mesmerize and elevate the listener. It is truly introspective soul. In addition to his songwriting and production, Kahlil is an artist with a passion for live performances. His stage presence earned him an opportunity to open for Jon B. He has performed on the stages of the most iconic musical venues including DROM, Lit Lounge, The Bitter End, Howard Theatre, Bowery Electric, Pianos, Sony Hall and the world-famous New York’s SOB’s.
Kahlil also embraces the business of music, and in 2010, founded and branded Instinct Entertainment – a production company that houses music, film and media. It is also home to his weekly podcast On The Way - which reviews four new albums a week, and hilariously delves into current events that relate to and affect the community. It is also part of the 3X NAACP Image Awards winning Mocha Podcasts Network!
Kahlil is multifaceted in his artistic and creative endeavors. His hard work and determination have paid off in many ways, but the biggest and best of them is just around the bend. Stay tuned!
